You know that gorgeously perfect fall rain? Not the window-rattling thunderstorm, and not the wimpy short-lived sprinkle, but the beautifully soaking downpour. The one that brings a slight chill to your skin, that unmistakable scent to the air, and shows absolutely no sign of letting up. Now, take that rainstorm, position it gently outside your window, go to your closet, and pull out your coziest and softest blanket. You have it? Ok, now grab your favorite book and a mug of something warm and comforting, curl up in a cozy nook, and lose yourself in the moment.
That mood, that atmosphere, is the inspiration for Rainy Days Caramelized. A site devoted to real food that simply makes you feel warm, cozy, and contended.
This is going to sound a tad analytical for a second, but please bear with me, I promise I’m headed somewhere with this…I think for most people, certain foods tend to carry with them distinct emotions. For example, the nostalgia of the favorite dish your mom made, a pastry you used to bake with your grandma, or something you used to sneak into the kitchen to eat with your sibling. Even just the excitement as you begin to smell your favorite dessert, or waking up to the smell of breakfast cooking. Food has the surprising ability to transform our mood, recall memories and emotions, even just to simply make us happy.
This is the purpose of Rainy Days Caramelized.
For me, the simple act of cooking, of creating something wonderful and experimenting with different flavors, scents, texture combinations, is therapeutic. The recipes I choose to share are ones that have brought me joy, contentment, excitement, peace, something positive, and my ultimate goal is that I am able to share that joy, those emotions, with you.
